Cheese board

Which type of cheese?

When serving the Cheeseboard

Selecting the Cheese

Serving the Cheese

  • Choose at least three cheeses to give a range of flavour and textures
  • Allow 50g(2oz) cheese per person if the cheeseboard is to end the meal, or 100g(4oz) if it is the main part of the meal
  • Select cheeses to give variety of colour, texture and flavour
  • Do not forget to include a lower fat alternative such as reduced fat Cheddar-type or low fat soft cheese
  • When eating start off with the mildest cheese and finish with the strongest
  • Allow enough room on the cheeseboard to cut the cheese
  • Try serving cheese with different fruits - pears, mangoes or kiwi fruit
  • Serve with a selection of sweet and savoury biscuits and breads
  • Or eat the cheese unaccompanied, with a knife and fork
  • Maybe try serving the cheeseboard before the dessert
  • It is best to start eating the mildest cheese and to finish with the strongest.
